To obtain an M1 licence in Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old, pass a written knowledge test based on the official Motorcycle Handbook, and undergo vision and motorcycle skills tests at a DriveTest Centre. Before taking the M1 road test, you need to hold your M1 licence for at least 60 days, during which time you’re restricted from riding on certain roads and highways, riding between midnight and 5 a.m., and carrying passengers. Upon passing the M1 road test, you’ll receive an M2 licence, which allows for more riding privileges. Completing an approved motorcycle safety course can accelerate the process and provide valuable skills and knowledge.
